Silverstone Classic 2018
The Silverstone Classic 2018 is largest Classic Motor Racing Festival in the world. It grows year on year & attracts over 100,000 visitors over the 3 day weekend event.
Many of the most valuable and revered competition cars from yesteryear make the trip to attend the meeting. This year 22 races were held around the full Silverstone Grand Prix circuit to entertain the crowds of spectators. This year the Masters Historic Racing series have added the Endurance Legends to their calendar. These awesome fire spitting beasts would be sure to wow the crowds as the dusk falls over Silverstone Circuit.
Plenty to see…
As ever there is plenty to see & do over these 3 days, both on & off the track. Many owners clubs attend the meeting bringing along their cherished cars to put on display. You can find anything from old car parts, models of yesteryear, magazine collections to motorsport memorabilia, in the tented merchandise village. If it’s driving you’ve come to see, then you will be entertained for every minute of the day. There are driving demonstrations & parades as well as all the high speed action on the track.
My working brief…
After working with Forza Historic Racing Team at Monaco Historic Grand Prix earlier this year, I was again following their drivers throughout the weekend. I love to watch the mechanics as they prepared the Historic F1 cars & Sports cars. Quite literally millimetre attention to detail goes into getting these cars out on track. You can’t help being caught up in their excitement & sometimes disappointment. They all make me really feel part of the team.
My highlights of the Silverstone Classic 2018….
Last year I looked forward to the Le Mans style Group C cars. Weirdly rain came for all their races. Though we got fantastic ‘rooster tails’ off the rear tyres, it deprived us of glowing brake discs. This year the Masters Endurance Legends more than made up for it. Treating us to the double spectacle of braking hard to light those discs up. Before then belching flames… not to mention the noise!!!
I was grateful to have such close access to Masters Historic F1 drivers Nick Padmore, Max Smith-Hillard & Phil Hall. The Forza Historic Racing Team & all the races make The Silverstone Classic meeting one of my favourite events on my year.
I hope you enjoy looking through this collection of photos from the meeting.
