Silverstone Classic 2019

It may come as no surprise that The Silverstone Classic 2019 is largest Classic Motor Racing Festival in the world. A mix of now expected & special races each year, attracting well over 100,000 visitors for the 3 days of Historic Motorsport.

This marked 50 years of the Ford Capri & 60 years of the Mini, made for some impressive grids. Not forgetting the very special 100 years of Bentley Motors, with made lovely cars in attendance. 22 races were held around the full Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit to entertain the crowds of spectators. The Masters Historic Racing Series returned with the Endurance Legends in their calendar. To mark the special centenary one of the Le Mans winning Bentley Speed 8 made its first competitive outing on UK soil.

Plenty to see…

As ever there is plenty to see & do over these 3 days, both on & off the track. Many owners clubs attend the meeting bringing along their cherished cars to put on display. You can find anything from old car parts, models of yesteryear, magazine collections to motorsport memorabilia, in the tented merchandise village. If it’s driving you’ve come to see, then you will be entertained for every minute of the day. There are driving demonstrations & parades as well as all the high speed action on the track.

My highlights of the Silverstone Classic 2019….

I still can’t get away from the glorious noise the Masters Historic Formula One cars make. Sound is such an important part of motorsport… yes it is exciting to watch, but put your fingers in your ears & its just not quite the same! As with last year the Masters Endurance Legends brought their A Game. Treating us to the double spectacle of braking hard to light up those discs. Before then belching flames… oh not forgetting the noise!!!

Seeing Sir Jackie Stewart reunited for a few laps in his Matra MS80-02. Almost 50 years to the day that he won the British Grand Prix here in the very same car.

Ohhh… & how could I forget my first laps of Silverstone Circuit!! Courtesy of James in his Tesla, who very kindly let me jump in & share his demo laps. Very strange experiencing rapid acceleration & doing 90mph on Hangar Straight to no noise but the slight sound of the wind across the windows!

I hope you enjoy looking through this collection of photos from the meeting.
